SAMe/Betaine TMG Dosages?

I have been taking SAMe as a single caplet each day plus two capsules Betaine upon rising each day (empty stomach).  The results have not been spectacular as a mood booster, so I started to increase the dose of SAMe to two caplets/day + two capsules Betaine.  Slight improvement.  Next month I intend to add an additional SAMe Caplet.  Do I continue with two capsules of Betaine or do I at some level increase the Betaine dosage also?  The next step will be four SAMe + Betaine capsules.  What would you recommend as the proper Betaine dosage at this level?  Any other concerns on dosage?  Please advise.  Thank you.  ICG

Generally, we recommend one capsule of Betaine for every 800 mg (2 caps) of SAMe. More information on this supplement can be found here.

Betaine is for HCL production no? also to transform Homocystein in Cysteine together with Choline, B6-B9-B12….

That’s Betaine HCL, a digestive aid. This is a different supplement, Betaine TMG, used for brain health. 🙂

What is the best dosage strategy for taking multiple dosages of SAMe?  I am taking three caplets (all at once in the morning on an empty stomach along with two Betaine TMG capsules). Is this best, or should I be taking SAMe in divided doses?  Please advise.  Thank you. ICG

SAMe is usually recommended in divided doses, with one dose in the morning, and the second early afternoon.

On an empty stomach?  Perhaps before Lunch?  How about when taking three SAMe? I need more perspective, more details.  I was a Hospital Corpsman / Operating Room Tech in the Navy.  SAMe must exit the stomach within 45 minutes so that it can be absorbed in the small intestine.  True or False?

Yes, it is generally recommended to be taken two times of day, and best on an empty stomach for better absorption. Allow at least 45 minutes to pass before you eat, or two hours to pass after eating before taking a dose. The times of day you take it can vary, but you might try to create a routine around it upon waking, and then an hour before lunch. Is this a recommended supplement based on your brain type report?

I don’t remember if SAMe was specifically recommended for Type 1, but I am 70 years old and it is certainly an important supplement to compensate for age-related physiological decline.  From what I have read, the SPECT SCAN is much more appropriate as a diagnostic tool than even a very well constructed questionnaire.  But, I certainly am confident that SAMe has been helpful to me as an effective mood elevator.  The question now is what dose is most appropriate.
What is the normal release of SAMe by the liver each day?  It seems likely to me that if the dose level is between one and four 400mg Caplets, at my age I doubt that I would be overdosing if I were to take 800mg twice each day.  True or False?
Please advise.  Thank you.  ICG

True that you would be unlikely to be taking too much at that amount, but as a general rule, stay at the lowest dose that you are feeling therapeutic benefit. And SAMe helps the liver to eliminate toxins, but I cannot answer exactly how much is “released by the liver” each day.

The question is:  SAMe released by the liver for a 71 year old male @ 153# vs for a 20 year old male of the same weight.  Someone must have the answer.  Alternative:  What is the average decrease of SAMe every decade after age 20.  I suspect you understand where I am going with this.  Thank you.
