In Case You Missed It…Dr. Amen Chimes In On Lumosity

If you missed Dr. Amen’s interview with Huff post, you can view it now. We discuss Lumosity and their false claims that games could stave off dementia and make you smarter. It’s just not brain games. The brain doesn’t get sick in one way, it gets sick in many different ways. We really have to have a comprehensive approach to optimizing your brain in many different ways. This is a really important topic – you can’t just do one thing to get one spectacular result. You have to make a lifestyle change.

I really agree with all Dr. Amen said about the differences between our type of program and  Lumosity.  I have been following BFL almost daily for 10 months and can say that it has helped me make tremendous changes in my life…all in a positive direction.  Still, many family members don’t trust Dr. Amen or the program.  They keep asking me to show double blind tests that prove his program is better.  I don’t know how to respond except to say “I’m living proof of the benefits!”  Help!  Is there something more I can tell them?  I sent them a link to this Hufpost interview but don’t know for sure that it was read….

Brennie, that is so true!  It’s always saddening when people you love have closed minds and hearts to the very things that can make their world a brighter, more fulfilling place.

Yes, Chellenor, like you, I find it sad when people reject the ideas that can help them.  My hope is that, if we continue in the wiser ways ourselves, that our loved ones may eventually become more open to them.

I agree I am getting the same struggle with my friends and family, take a pill is their answer, however, pills can wear out the body quickly.  BFL is the best for me, however, taking it on to those who are skeptical can be a challenge.

That sad part to all of this is the negativity that our friends and family add to our life. I was told long ago by my psychologist that our friends and family dont want us to change. They will fight us to keep us under their control and doing what they think is the right thing. Alas, we must do what is best for us. When we are truly healthy we can then help them if they are willing. Its the best that any of us can do.
I am lucky that my older brother has heard of Dr. Amen and thinks this life change mission I am on with the BFL program is worth while. My Mother keeps pushing back. I stand my ground these days so I am doing better. I was raised with the Catholic Guilt complex. I have been my mothers caregiver for 8 years. We live together but for the past 1 1/2 months she has been with my older brother. I needed this break. I have such a long way to go to be who I want to be and act the way I want to act. That being said, today has been another great day for me. 2 in a row.

You are right about our friends and family not wanting us to change. I just told my parents today that I no longer need them and they took away everything from me financially because they think I don’t love them or something when all I wanted to do is grow into my own person. I am still in college trying to figure my life out and Change for the better. You are not alone:)

I feel your pain.  For so many years my own family made fun of me and refused to work on getting healthy, and I am a double board certified psychiatrist.  But now my dad got healthy, my brother-in-law too.  Be the change you want to see!!

I have a sense that the cultural problem of which we are all negatively affected is the inclination toward making everything ‘easy’.  The superficial, casual approach to learning and problem solving may actually be the road that leads to cognitive decline and ultimately degenerative mental diseases and conditions like Alzheimer’s.  As Dr. Amen has pointed out the importance of ‘new learning’, if we do not understand that new learning is not necessarily learning new words or phrases (language familiarity) it is more an issue of in-depth acquisition of understanding of truth and how to use this truth to become more competent mentally as well as vocationally. It seems to me that we become mentally healthy by becoming more mentally competent in dealing with the complexities of living and breathing.  ICG

I always share the good things in life, good products, helpful information about health, the Gospel of Jesus Christ, BTL, BWW and it use to saddened me when people didn’t care to know this things but I have learned that my part is to share it and it is their choice to accept it or reject it. In time, their own time, some of our families or friends might turn around and accept it.
I just had a friend over today with pen and notebook ready to get recipes for smoothies and asking me questions about health,(totally unexpected lol) I commended her for the changes she has been making and I invited her to watch the BWW class tomorrow night with me.
We never know what is going to impact them or wake them up so just put it out there for them to find when they are ready

Sorry – I followed the link but couldn’t find this video or article – the link just goes to the general Huffington Post site, where there are hundreds of things. A search on the site for “Dr. Daniel Amen” also didn’t bring up the result I was looking for. Please advise!
