Vegan suppers

I am new to BrainFitLife and a vegan.  I noticed that the majority of main meal suggestions contain animal proteins.  I use legumes, nuts, seeds and nutritional yeast for protein with some rice, oats, millet, buckwheat and amaranth.  Are there any  caveats on this diet?

Whether a vegan diet is healthy for you individually depends on many factors including digestive health, genetics, cultural norms, and access to foods. And while there are certainly many people around the world who eat a healthy vegan diet with plenty of benefits, there are specific nutrient deficiencies that are more common in this diet, including zinc (especially for children and pregnant women though true for everyone), omega-3 fatty acids, iron, and certain B-vitamins like B-12. I would encourage you to have your physician or clinical nutritionist regularly evaluate your nutrient status to make sure you are in an optimal range, and be sure to supplement when necessary.

If you are eating a variety of plant-based foods rich in fiber, healthy fats, adequate protein, AND your digestion/absorption is optimal, a vegan diet may be healthy for you, but supplementing is almost always necessary (as it is for most of us on some level). Best!

Thank you for the reply.  So much of what I read and listen to has mentioned from scientific studies that including animal products in one’s diet increases deaths from all causes.  Additionally, animal cruelty, environmental impact and antibiotic use, more people are choosing plant based protein.  Could you include a vegan alternative menu for the start up menu.

Also, in case you haven’t seen them, there are many vegan dishes on the “Vegetable” list on the “Feed Your Brain” tab. To make them ‘complete’ meals, you can add lentils, beans, tempeh, hemp, or other vegan protein source. Best!
