What can you tell me about the above test? Is there any study about its ability to find

different conditions before they develop into an incurable situation?

Dr. Raj Attariwala, who is in Vancouver Canada, is the person on the video. THANKS!

MRI screenings may be able to find very early stage disease processes, and can be useful in certain cases, particularly when looking for metastasis of cancers, and early tumor detection. See this article for an example.

However, total body MRI in an otherwise healthy person is not completely without risk. Some very early cancers (stage 0 or stage 1) for example, may not ever become a problem to one’s health, but once known, may be responded to strongly either by invasive treatment or removing organs or tissue altogether that may not have been necessary. There is a great article on the need to explain risk when screening for cancers by the National Cancer Institute here.

Depending on what you are trying to us the total body MRI for, I would speak with your physician about the benefits to risk ratio for yourself.

Best!

Great article!  A long time ago I read (from Samuel S. Epstein, MD) an article in the LA Times about CIS- Carcinoma in Situ- and how people who have it may never get advanced cancer, though unnecessary further testing is usually done on women who have CIS. He is known for his contributions on avoidable causes of cancer. I just saw he has written several books, so this has me interested to read some of them.

Thank you for this reminder of Dr. Epstein’s work. Really important voice in the cancer prevention sphere!

I heard MRI increase risk for Alzheimer’s, are there any clinical studies to support this?

Not that I am aware of. On the contrary, there is growing research on the benefit of identifying brain dysfunction earlier through MRI imaging, including identifying dementia risk/presence. However, as aforementioned, it is always important to balance risk and benefit so we have to work with our personal healthcare team to determine what’s best for us.
