Struggle to feel motivated

I am 48yrs old.  I was diagnosed with ADD in 2015.  However,  I did not do well with the medication so I opted for meditation instead.  I didn’t help on its own.  I am now taking the supplements and seeing some real changes in myself.  However,  I still lack motivation.  It seems when I work for someone else I feel happy and motivated, but since I have been working on my own business, I don’t feel any motivation for the things I use to love.  Why is that?

Often we need the energy of others around us to keep our mental fires burning! You might try working with other self-employed individuals in a shared work space, and/or join a community of professionals that you can connect with regularly for feedback and inspiration. And sometimes indirect inspiration can affect our work too! See a play, go to a museum, hear some comedy, read an inspiring book. We need the energy of spirit and purpose to feel “in spirit–inspired”. This is something that, regularly fed in our lives, can really enhance every piece of our health, including our careers. – Coach Zoe

That is exactly what I needed to hear.  The lack of motivation also is connected to loneliness as far as I can see.  I have signed up to volunteer for two organizations and I am also looking for a job with hours that work around my own business schedule. Thank you so much for that feedback.  Grately appreciated! 🙂

I truly struggle with motivation.  I am suppose to go to therapy today, but I do not want to leave the house.  I do not know why I am this way today, but I do not want to see other people. I hope I can get motivated soon.

Sometimes we can feel more motivated to take the important, but sometimes hard, steps of self care by reminding ourselves of our long term desires and goals. You might try revisiting the One Page Miracle (under Focus My Brain –> Motivation) and think about one of the areas in that exercise that therapy helps you to reach. Is it the goal of having closer relationships with family and friends? Knowing yourself and your purpose more deeply? Finding work you love in the world? Sit with that larger goal for a full minute or more, and let yourself absorb the feelings invoked. Regularly reminding ourselves of the bigger picture can help us make the smaller daily decisions that will ultimately lead us to where we want to be more of the time. Best to you- Coach Zoe
