Strategy to Use the Website…

This is a wonderful website full of lots and lots of useful information.  As a result, it is a bit overwhelming to develop a strategy to use the tools I have here.  There is so much material to cover.  For example, the brain games are wonderful.  How do I decide what to focus on and practice?  How much time would be good to devote to some games daily.  I don’t have time to do it all.  Also, my energy level is effected by the bipolar medication I take.  1500mg of Divalproex daily.  Just having trouble finding the time and energy to use the website to my best advantage.

Thanks for your question, rsollars! I would suggest starting with the Daily Journal on the Dashboard page. This should be done as regularly as possible. When you complete that, pay attention to how you are taking care of yourself well and in what ways you might need some more support. The How am I doing today? and Good Brain Habits checklists are great ways to assess that. Then make a point to do one thing that day to attend to an area in need.

In terms of the games, use the ones that are encouraged on your report as regularly as you can without feeling overwhelmed by them. The point is to strengthen your brain, not exhaust it! It might help to put aside 15 minutes each day (or other completely attainable amount of time) at the same time of day to attend to the Dashboard and see what you want to focus on for that day. Keep the intention on optimal health, not doing it all perfectly.

Best!

Thank you for your reply!  I don’t know if it is part of the bipolar condition but I try to grasp too much to often and get overwhelmed and end up doing little or nothing.  Recently, personal circumstances rocked my finances and I am under the stress of a lot of financial debt.  This condition has lasted a long time.  When I first started this program, I was doing the daily journal, walking, hydrating, and lots of good stuff I was doing before.  I started to feel much better.  When I get depressed, I shut down and start to miss doing these good things.  I got into this program with the one thing at a time attitude and add stuff as you go along.  Now I must rebuild the same way and forgive myself for not doing it all perfectly.  Perfectionism is a source of depression for me…

I hear you, rsollars. Chasing perfectionism is by nature depressing since ‘perfect’ doesn’t exist, right!? All-or-nothing thinking is very common, and gets us into trouble in all sorts of ways, usually leading to an abandonment of our attempts at habit change.

Try focusing on what you can do right now (this morning, this day, this meal, etc.) that will be treating yourself well and moving you to more optimal health. Practicing mindfulness in the present moment keep us from feeling too overwhelmed about the future, or regretful about the past. We have many opportunities in a given day to treat ourselves well, and it is the many small choices we make that can add up to a healthier and happier life long-term. – Coach Zoe

This is my second day on the site and I am finding it very exciting. Today, I went to the nutrition part of the site and there were no recipes or articles there. Is there a glitch in the program? If not, please tell me how to access the recipes for my brain type. I work with a cellular biologist who is guiding my diet and always look forward to finding new ideas that nourish my body and brain. Thank you.

Hi Helen- Apologies on the recipes not showing up! Try www.tanaamen.com/recipes if you continue to have trouble. Delicious, brain-healthy meals, with an option to create a meal plan on the calendar, and a shopping list print out with the ingredients needed for the recipes. Happy cooking! – Coach Zoe

Thank you. I’ll check through these and hope that the Healthy Eating part of this Brain Warrior Site gets populated.
