Spect scan questions

When they do the spect scan, how long is the scan?  For instance, do they do a 4 hour neuropsych and have it hooked up the entire time to measure you?  Or is the neuropsych separate like it would be anywhere else, and then at the end they just take a quick scan of your brain?

If you have multiple varied things going on that may or may not show up on a neuropsych (for instance overstimulation one day, neurofatigue the next), will it show just a snapshot in time or can they customize it to nail what is going on?

thx

The SPECT scan is separate from any other assessment, and takes about an hour. There are two scans, one is taken when the client is at ‘rest’ and one is after a brain-stimulating exercise. You can read more about it here: https://www.amenclinics.com/services/brain-spect/

Hmmm ok thanks.  I thought the scan was during a brain exercise or that brain activity was being monitored in some kind of scan.

I don’t know if it would be a 2k pretty picture that would not catch an intermittent issue.  Will it show, for instance, executive function issues if you are not actually performing that activity?  If you can do it one day and not the next for various reasons such as fatigue?  Or origins of fatigue if you are not fatigued at that moment?

Yes, the brain activity is being monitored immediately after a concentration/brain stimulating exercise and then immediately after being at rest for some time to see how various parts of the brain function in each state. The physicians then analyze parts of your brain are over-active or under-active depending on the findings. You would expect certain parts of the brain to be more or less active in different circumstances.

Origins of brain fatigue are complex, but certainly there are elements of chronic brain fatigue that may be illuminated from the scans whether or not you are fatigued in that very moment.
