SPECT SCAN

I have a new Dr @ VA that is a functional medicine practitioner.  Going well now — very responsive.  I requested a SPECT SCAN based on a history of 10+ incidences of brain trauma over my 70 year life in process.  This is his response:
“Dr. Hasman said that shortly after he placed the order for your SPECT scan he was contacted by our nuclear medicine department. They have requested that you are first evaluated through our neurology department to determine if other further investigation such as MRIs or other testing are warranted prior to ordering a SPECT scan. Neurology consultation has been placed.”  Thanks, Hasman
I recently read a warning that MRI may be harmful to the brain.  Any comments?
I have no knowledge of VA use of SPECT.  I do not know if their protocols are comparable with Amen clinics.  I would feel more comfortable with your guidance on this issue.  My experience with the VA is that they mostly provide superficial and indifferent treatment.  ICG

We have no knowledge that MRIs are harmful to your brain. SPECT is a more sensitive study, but its use in the VA is very new.

An appointment with the VA Neurology Dept. has been set for 30 November — It seems apparent that I will find out at that meeting how they prefer to employ SPECT scans in evaluating brain function as well as any other (likely scaled down) approach to evaluating brain function.
Thank you for your thoughts.  ICG
