When you talk about getting about 7 hours of sleep a night, is that uninterrupted sleep? I have to go to the bathroom 2 or 3 times a night but in total, I get about 7 hours or more.

I wish I could go right back to sleep, only a few times has that happened.  I would consider getting right back to sleep is as good as uninterrupted.

Sometimes I put on calming music or a meditation (that makes me sleepy) and that helps me go back to sleep.

I have struggled with sleep for years. I just got more help from a newly released book –

The sleep solution by W. Chris Winter.

How’s it going?

I watched a youtube interview with Dr. Winter and he offered several good tips and info on getting better sleep.  I especially liked shutting off TV and all electronic devices and having low lighting before bed, reading a book or writing.  He said before electricity lighting oil lamps, candles and fireplace after sundown and folks were less stressed and slept thru the night.  I like to imagine living in that time before bedtime and even this is relaxing.

recently I’ve been awake for a couple hours and can go back to sleep for a total of 6 or more hrs sleep.  I feel much more refreshed and better memory, energy and mood.  This is progress for now broken sleep is better than not going back to sleep.

Sleep is a very interesting area as what you really want to achieve is REM sleep. This is the deepest form of sleep and when your body recovers the best from your daily stressors. When it is spoken about the need for 7-8 hours of uninterrupted sleep that really means in its deepest form. There is some nice research on l theanine and REM sleep.

I have the same problem with waking in the middle of the night.   Before my accident my sleep problems were only bad one week every month thanks to hormones.  But since my brain injury I wake up every night.  Thanks for your question…I’m new to this site 😊

If you can’t sleep, please don’t prolong it, seek help.
After a concussion I had sleep problems for about 2 years, sleeping at most 3 hours total each night.
I reached a stage were I was lethargic, lost interest of all ‘cool things’ I enjoyed before in life.
My doctor urged me to take medication in order to get some sleep, before to further rehabilitate the body. I got two different kind medication prescribed since January-didn’t work.
As of June I am using gabapentin, and yes-it works. I read a book before bedtime, lasting 2 pages and I get sleepy. I wake up only once per night. I total now 6 almost 7 hours of sleep each night.
