Ringing ears

I have noticed several posting on yahoo about ringing in the ears and the authors selling supplements.  In these postings most of them claim the experience is caused deep inside the brain.  Have any of your spect   studies noticed this?  If so do you have any suggestions for how to deal with the situation?

No answer, yet?  Sometimes it helps to re-post.  (I’ve had a high-pitched background tone since childhood, and used to think everyone had it.)

I don’t know if the physicians are able to see evidence of tinnitus via SPECT, but I will check with them and get back to you. I do know that tinnitus can be due to many factors, including brain injury, so following the brain healthy protocols on this site are a great start. – Coach Zoe

Hi Zoe,
Could you list the factors that can cause tinnitus other than exposure to load noises and whatever else you were able to discover? Thanks!

Some other suspected factors contributing to tinnitus may include systemic inflammation and inadequate kidney function. There is some research highlighting a marked increase in tinnitus in patients with kidney disease, though this is an ongoing area of research. – Coach Zoe

So I am wondering if acupuncture would be helpful?

There’s some research suggesting that tinnitus can be relieved by acupuncture in some people, though the results have been quite mixed (some not benefiting at all). Interestingly, it seems many liver “points” (along the meridians used in acupuncture) are used in treating tinnitus. As the liver is our primary detoxification organ, this is fascinating to me. – Coach Zoe
