Hello, what does Dr Amen recommend for restless legs? Also I’m sure I’m missing something obvious but how do you search all forums for a topic?

Restless legs may be the result of a vitamin and/or mineral insufficiency such as iron, calcium, potassium, or magnesium. I would suggest getting a nutrient panel done with your physician or with a home test to see what your particular deficiency might be, and then supplementing and adding more food to your diet that contain what you need. Almost all of us are insufficient in something due to stress, environmental pollutants, poor lifestyle, genetics, chronic medication use that depletes nutrients, etc.

Another factor in restless legs can be food allergies/sensitivities, so if you haven’t already, you might test for these as well, or start tracking what you are eating and how it may be influencing the frequency/severity of your restless legs.

In the meantime, I would encourage you to try some of these interventions to see if they offer you any relief:

  1. Hydration! Drink at least 1/2 your body weight in ounces of water/non-caffeinated teas daily.
  2. Take Epsom salt baths (mineral-rich) to relax muscles and absorb minerals through the skin.
  3. Regular movement. Daily brisk walks, swimming, dancing, jogging, etc.
  4. Nutrition. Eat a variety of vitamin/mineral rich foods (whole foods: vegetables, nuts, seeds, fruits, legumes, etc.).
  5. Avoid substances that can worsen symptoms such as caffeine, alcohol, processed foods, dehydration, food allergies, and a sedentary lifestyle.

I hope these help!

And to your question about searching for a topic: you will see “Related Topics” listed to the right on a post, which will lead you to, well, related topics. :-). As far as I know there is not a way to search all the forums at once, but you can use your computers search feature if you want to search for a key word once you are on a forum section (Nutrition, Lifestyle, etc.).
