Overfocused/ Limbic ADD

Hi Folks! I have a question for Zoe and associates: What specific damage is seen on your SPEC scans after someone takes ~30mg day Adderall XL after 2 to 3+ years?  Dr.Amens mentioned he has seen detrimental effects on the SPEC scans with folks on anti-anxiety drugs. My paranoid brain wants some transparency to know what more to expect If I keep taking the drug.

Your online survey/tests note I have the over focused/limbic ADD.. I certainly had issues as a child with this and only late in life I have been on the Adderall for the past number of years. No question it helps like “having a new pair of glasses or hearing aids” but after a few weeks of taking it I feel tense at times and more short/grouchy then normal. After stressing out my marriage every few months or so I end up taking a vacations from this drug. My Brain and my wife are not happy with this cycle..  We have gone thru your Masters Coaching DVDs one time so far which was great. I did start exercising again but CYB,CYL accelerated workbook just on the shelf!. I have cleaned and organizing my desk, workshop, garage and closets a number of times in the past and looking at these areas now is just depressing!! I love the thought of being a Brain Warrior but for me at 65 it feels like being on a Navy Seals Special Ops. event bumbling around as a strategic distraction target!  Any constructive advice would be just wonderful!!  Thanks for being there for us for sure and of course Kind Regards!!

Hi Leo

If you are fortunate enough to live by a Amen Clinic go in and get a scan and get on a treatment program that will help your brain and relationships.
Going to the Amen Clinic is  different they care and are not run by the pharmaceutical industry ,  Do not let age hold you back !
There are treatments that are not drugs that can heal like EMDR, Neurofeedack and others.

Regards,
Mike

Hi Leo
I just got my first brain scans done and it is perfectly natural to feel a bit anxious about how your brain is responding to a treatment based on drugs. Here is the problem in a nutshell. In my opinion brain scans are really a necessity if you want to see how your brain responds to treatments and why we as individuals respond to everyday situations differently from everyone else around us. In my opinion, because symptoms can be not just hard to describe for some people but to nail down why they are happening if you don’t look at the brain.  If your choice is to do pharmaceuticals over a more natural treatment then why not have the scans done to have a perfect targeted program made just for you as an individual and not play a guessing game which, is all most people are doing in this situation. I can say getting my brain scanned was the best decision i have ever made and for the first time in a long time i huge hope for a healthy future.   Mike

HI Folks!

Thanks so much for the heads up, support and feed back here!

I tend to be alone most of the time so I am sure the forum makes a difference for others too. I certainly appreciate it!!

My wife’s MO is to run circles around me with all here activities etc.. So it is no surprise that just an hour ago she was up in her office scheduling me for the program! We are 2 hours away on a good day from NYC She made me an offer that I could not refuse..

I do get that it is more of a guessing game without a scan.. And I already have a few cognitive markers so if you have real issues it’s better to take action while you can. I would find it very hard to make the choice and to act on it even with all the research and data I found on the imaging technology ..

Just writing this can using control Alt can take 5x as long as most folks!!

I have already stopped a few meds given intolerable side effects and potential permanent harm.. I have also started implementing slowly..some of the advice from Dr Dan and Tana via their DVDs here.  Perhaps I will feel better and some positive changes will occur within the next 4 weeks..

Hi Leo-
Creating lifestyle habit changes that can support your brain health can be challenging, but certainly well worth the time and energy! Congrats on doing so much on your own already, and I’m very happy to hear you are coming in to the NYC clinic for an evaluation.

In terms of the medication influence on the brain, this can vary between individuals, and can be greatly influenced (positively or negatively) by lifestyle factors as well. Be sure to take advantage of working with one of our brain health coaches after your evaluation if you need more support in creating healthier habits for the long-term benefit of your brain health. Best! -Zoe
