My Father’s dementia

Hello Dr. Amen! I DO have a question today so thank you for asking! My 90 year old father has dementia. Several times a day, he gets anxious and “stuck” on a subject. He repeats the questions over and over, is there anything that can help his brain to not get stuck like that? It almost sounds like the old LP albums with a scratch. We try distracting him but that hasn’t been very effective lately and my mother was giving him coconut oil and it helped some with other memory issues but not this one. It must be torture for him and it is exhausting for us.

Hi Chantellel: Thank you for being part of our community.  There is interesting new research about slowing memory issues by putting people on a diet like ours, plus some supportive supplements.  For people who get stuck on negative thoughts I often recommend trying Serotonin Mood Support.  It might be something to consider.
