Methylphenidate prescribed if used what are the brain health risks?

Hi Dr. Amen and coaches. Thank you for all your good work. I find it difficult to distinguish how taking methylphenidate for ADD via a psychiatrist’s prescription would not cause the same brain damaging effects as abusing it as a street drug. Of course the amount would be carefully prescribed and the source would be reliable. I am hoping Dr. Amen you might be able to clarify this area because a psychiatrist may be prescribing that for me in the near future. Thank you

When methylphenidate is prescribed properly it can help the brain work better, if you have the right ADD type.  Read my book Healing ADD for more information.

Dr. Amen thank you so much for your prompt reply. Your answer is very reassuring and timely as I have an appointment this coming Monday with a good psychiatrist. I have been enjoying your PBS series DVD’s that are very informative and developing brain envy as a brain warrior. I am really observing a difference using your Focus and Energy supplement. I will fill out an Amen  ADD type questionnaire this weekend before my appointment and imagine that will also help. I will read your book Healing ADD. Thanks for all you and your teams great work!
