lead in cans

Our house lead water was under the allowable # but none is really acceptable. We got a new water filter but what about the lining of cans? I read something  a long time ago about lead in cans. How do we know when a can has this in it? We were eating a lot of canned beans (organic) over the past 2 years..what do you think? Thanks!

Lead is no longer allowed to be used in canned foods, but the lining of the can often contains BPA, a coating that can contribute to our overall toxic ‘load’. You can find cans that are labeled “BPA free” but often the alternatives of BPS or other coating material is no better. So, while you might use canned goods occasionally, whenever possible try making your own beans and storing them in glass containers for use later in the week. A slow cooker is great for making beans very easily (and less expensively). Just remember to soak them overnight in water before cooking them to optimize digestion. Best!
