I was in a dream interpretation class that my therapist runs. I was up getting my dream analyzed and she started bragging about how far I’ve come. I always felt like a stupid idiot .How could I have possibly gotten myself into all the crazy circumstances I’ve been in. Too too many. Well I cried for two days not only for myself but for all  the friends I’ve lost that I knew from room and boards I’ve live in. They died of overdoses, my roommate died of AIDS, and many were addicted to pain pills. They’ll do anything to get their pain pills and it’s a horrible death.my roommate with AIDS suffered tremendously,. It was my friends birthday and I went to wake her up to celebrate and she was dead. I had a friend stop her meds after having a baby went to her apartment and starved herself to death. I tried everything to get n contact with her but t failed. I was able to at least help two friends from dying. I would listen to dr amen about the havoc drugs do to your brain. It’s deadly. what do you think?

Melinda. It is so gratifying to see you taking control of your life. This website helped me when I was trying to get out of an abusive relationship. Even as an older person, I was taken in by someone with a criminal background and then abused. I have learned that it is important to surround ourselves with healthy people and avoid feeling sorry for those who have chosen an unhealthy path. We cannot blame ourselves for being caring people, but we cannot have unhealthy people in our lives. We deserve better.

These are powerful stories. It’s never too late (or too early) to live healthier lives on many different levels. Thanks very much for sharing.

Melind246, what an incredibly tough environment you are dealing with! Nonetheless, you are striving for personal excellence and I really respect that. Your friends are blessed to have a caring person like you in their lives, but I am very glad you are also a part of this community.   As Dr. Amen says, it helps to hang out with the healthiest people you can stand.  I hope we can help to keep you encouraged.
