Hi,
I am in a Detox class for Spring with a Functional Medicine N.D. and one of the options is the above. What do you think of it and what are the benefits? If you recommend it,how much and how often? Thanks!
IV nutrient therapy can be very helpful in certain conditions. Glutathione is one of the most potent antioxidants our body naturally produces. However, it is dependent on the consumption of sulfur-rich foods and magnesium to be synthesized and bioavailable. There is growing research on the benefit of IV glutathione use for reducing side effects of chemotherapy, and preventing oxidative stress in patients with kidney disease, so it seems likely it would have good benefit for many other conditions, or as prevention of disease, as well. As far as how often to use it, I would consult with a nutritionally-informed physician about your bio-individual needs for IV glutathione depending on your health history and current health status.
And just as a reminder, detoxification is an ongoing process in the body, so supporting the liver, large intestine, skin, and lungs (our primary detoxification organs) regularly is equally as important as doing a focused detoxification protocol periodically. Sweating regularly, eating a whole-foods plant-based diet, getting adequate sleep, diaphragmatic breathing, and avoiding toxins through our air, skin, and food, are all ways to support our detoxification pathways regularly.
Best!
Zoe
I am also going to be detoxing, but both my son and I have found out the hard way that doing anything, even great things, obsessively hurts you and can even cause your body to stop functioning properly. My son’s own immune system attacked his kidney, but because he recognized the symptoms immediately and sought help the inflammatory process was stopped prior to failure and he is getting healthier today.
He also has been watching Dr. Amen on PBS for the last 3 years, but not acting on it until recently. I am lending him the CDs of Dr. Amen’s programs that he hasn’t seen yet. Both he and his wife plan to watch The Brain in Love together. He hopes it will motivate her to work with him on the program and enhance their marriage. She is just learning to cook and gaining confidence. What a great start for them and my 2 year old Granddaughter. When she sees how sweet and beautiful Tana is, she will be inspired. Beauty and Love are her primary interests right now.
I did not try to push these on him. He asked me for them and he is waiting for me to finish the book to “Feel Good Fast And Make It Last”. I guess I’ll have to order the book from Amazon next month for him. He is still paying off his hospital and lab co-pays, which have really mounted up.
I only recently started this program and began it with gusto. I almost derailed trying to get is all done overnight and completely reversed my sleep cycle. I already had a frequently interrupted sleep cycle that was only 5-6 hours long. Talk about obsessing, I was truly “relentless”. I had to get self disciplined and pace myself better.
Such an important reminder about pacing and balance, so thank you. Anything done in excess can move us from health to illness…too much exercise, too much food, too much sleep, too much work, too much water…While motivation and inspiration can be a beautiful combination, knowing what our own individual pace of change needs to be is another vitally important piece of the puzzle. Thanks for sharing! -Zoe
YES! This deto has interrupted my sleep for 2 nights in a row.UGH! It is the only thing it can be,and I am not even doing all of the program.I stopped coffee,so that is not a factor..the food part is so restrictive that I was hungry and also felt fatigued.Only on it 4 days,I am slowly eating more but not off everything they say.I know that I wasn’t drinking enough water, but this is always my case. Thanks!
Hydration is such an important part of any detoxification regimen! Someone wise once said: “The solution to pollution is dilution!” If you struggle with getting enough water, try the next best thing: herbal teas. Keep them chilled in the fridge, or drink them warm, but either way, they can add flavor and variety when you tire of water. Hibiscus, peppermint, ginger, lemongrass, chamomile, vanilla, etc. Use ones you enjoy for hydration when water is less appealing. – Zoe
