Insomnia – Desperately looking for help

I have been dealing with insomnia for a number of years.  I have tried valerian root, melatonin, SleepyTime tea, as well as trazodone and Ambien.  They do absolutely nothing for me.  I have had success with Lunesta, which worked fine for a while, then quit working.  The thing that works best for me is to take 2 Xanax before bedtime.  I used to take Xanax throughout the day for anxiety but thankfully do not need to do that anymore.  I have recently tried GABA at bedtime, 750 mg capsule.  Again, it did nothing.  Ended up taking a Xanax at 2:30 a.m. to finally fall asleep for a few hours.  I did this for the last 2 nights.  I’ve asked my doctor for assistance as my goal is to use natural supplements rather than prescription meds.  She says she was trained in conventional medicine and doesn’t know much about supplements.  BUT she does not like me using the Xanax for sleep.  I understand it is not made for sleep but it’s the only thing that works for me.  Any suggestions?  Thanks in advance for all that you do and may God bless you!  P.S. I’m a brain type 4.

I would consider our Restful Sleep 4 at bedtime, Plus extra magnesium 300-400mg, plus 5HTP 100-200mg.  For Type 4 this might be the best combination.

I can fall asleep pretty well, but can’t stay asleep. I take two Valerian every night along with two herbal stress relief capsules. I can sleep for about 4 hours and then I wake up. My mind starts racing through all the things in my life that are stressful. I try to get my mind under control with focused breathing and controlling my thoughts. This works until I start relaxing enough to fall back asleep and then I wake up and start the process all over.  Monday through Friday I usually never go back to sleep as I am tense, waiting for the alarm to go off, knowing I have to get up and go to work. The only thing that helps is to turn the tv on to something that drowns out my thoughts and sends my mind in a more positive direction. That only works sometimes. My brain is a type 16.

For your brain type, I like SAMe during the day and GABA at night. Also journal your worries to get them out of your head. Write down what they are, what you can do about them, and what you cannot do about them.
