I’m was diagnosed with severe diverticulosis about eight years ago. I’ve recently been having abdominal pain, gas and bloating. I made an apt today with the gastroenterologist but was wondering what I could use that might help the pain until I can get in to see him. Thanks!

If you are experiencing continual pain, I would go to an urgent care clinic, or call the hotline number of your insurance to get medical advice. Generally, when one is having a flare up of diverticulitis, it is best to minimize very high fiber foods for the time being so there is less movement required of your colon until it has healed, and be sure to drink plenty of fluids as well. Consider bone broth for minerals, and ginger tea, which has anti-inflammatory properties. Once you have been treated, and the acute episode has passed, slowly increase higher fiber foods, and make sure you keep up with clean water, exercise, and stress management for preventing future episodes.
