How long does it take for vitamins/minerals to “Clear” your system for lab work??

I thought I Posted this before, but now I don’t see it… hmmmm

Anyway, i am getting lab work done and I want to see what my “normal” ranges are. I take a lot of supplements, vitamins, minerals, and if I keep taking them I don’t feel my test results will give me enough insight into what I need to add (or remove) to my daily regime.

How long does it take for my body to reset to it’s “normal” after i quit all my supplements. ?

Hi Laura,

Great question! Unfortunately, there’s not a completely straightforward answer as water-soluble vitamins (C and most B vitamins) are typically excreted in 2-3 weeks, but fat-soluble vitamins (D, E, some K, and A) are stored for months, so it’s hard to get a completely “raw” read in most cases. Gut bacteria also create vitamin K and many B vitamins, so that makes it even more complex! It may be helpful to see what your labs are with your current regimen, and then cut back where you may be in excess instead of the other way around.

Ask your healthcare practitioner what s/he thinks is best for you given your current supplement regimen.

Best!

Zoe

I am curious how you were able to resolve this concern, I too am contemplating lab work.

I personally decided to stop taking all of my supplements prior. I probably just stopped for about 1 month prior. Partially, it was because I have felt  like I needed a “break” occasionally anyway. But obviously, if you are taking critical stuff… I wouldn’t stop. The lab shows that all my tested vitamins were normal high even though I hadn’t taken them in more than a month. If you stay on the supplements, and find your test results are “normal” just assume they are doing good for you, I guess? If your test results show you have TOO much, then that could be a sign to ease off of certain things.
