How do you know if your condition merits having a SPECT done?

On June 15th, 2014, I was sitting in church when a brain zap (first ever & last) went through my head.  I have not been the same since.  Dizzy, very weak, very sick, very funky feeling~diagnosed as anxiety/depression.  This followed after a perfect storm of many stressors: daughter’s wedding; harrassment @ work; not eating right; losing purpose for life.  I tried the natural way, but did not have sucess and crashed again in August 2015.  I was very scared as I had always been so healthy, so I ended up on Cymbalta (20 to 40 to 60mg) from a physciatrist in Corte Madera, CA in October 2015.  I have felt some relief (mainly from dizziness), but still very, very weak (the weakest upon rising in the morning).  I learned about Dr Amen and became very interested in getting a healthier brain, so I am using BFL and started on some of his supplements (Brain & Body Power & Serratonin for Mood)  I want to learn to cook Tana’s nutritional recipes soon.  My brain feels like a fuse blew, so does that merit a SPECT???  Need directional help, please!!!  I feel like one of those patients who have been having darts thrown at them in the dark!!!  Ouch!!!  Thank you, Carla

Hi Carla–Thanks for reaching out. Have you had any scans done since this incident in June? We would certainly recommend you get one to make sure the treatment protocol is right for your specific brain. Our doctors in San Francisco are wonderful.

Thanks for responding, Coach Zoe!  One Dr ordered an MRI, but my insurance turned it down.  The other Dr’s I was under treatment with didn’t think I needed an MRI, but your brain SPECT does sound more helpful.  I definitely have to think harder, forget names more easily & have a head that needs clarity…also weakness is quite annoying every morning till about 12-1 PM.  I lost my job & insurance due to the length of this illness.

I am currently applying for Social Security and waiting for the long process, so if I would be awarded funds, then maybe I could visit your clinic in San Francisco as it is nearest to me!!!  I feel this problem is too big for me to unravel!!!  Thank you, Carla

So sorry to hear of your struggles with insurance, and your health. While the full evaluation, including the scan, is optimal, keep  following the suggestions on this site and you’ll be doing great service to your whole body and mind health!
