Grain/bran/cheese

Are we able to have bran or grain on the diet? Also, how about cheese made outside of the U.S., such as parmesan from Italy? We are able to have small portions of cheese, as long as it’s not daily?   Thanks

I addressed your grain question in your other post, so I’ll focus on your dairy question here. 🙂

The concern with dairy’s impact on brain health is the lactose (milk sugar), which can be inflammatory and difficult to digest for most people, and the casein (a milk protein), which can be disease promoting and addictive. While most cheese doesn’t contain much lactose, the casein  in cheese acts on our opioid receptors in the brain, making it highly addictive. Consider using cheese substitute recipes such as brewer’s yeast in recipes that call for cheese, and milks such as coconut or cashew instead of cow’s. Ghee, which is clarified butter, removes almost all remnants of both lactose and casein, so can be used in lieu of butter. -Coach Zoe
