How important is goal setting to this process?

Goals help us to be focused on the bigger picture, the “why” of small choices we have to make all day long. That is, without a bigger picture in mind, it’s hard to think that small decisions matter much. But in reality, every small decision we make takes us closer or further away from where we want to be with a particular part of our lives. Using the One Page Miracle tool keeps us aware of why things like taking a walk instead of sitting on the couch, drinking a glass of water instead of a glass of wine, practicing an instrument we want to learn, or meeting a friend instead of staying home matter! If we continually remind ourselves of what our BIG (long-term) goals are, those smaller steps make more sense in our every day lives, and we are apt to make choices towards our goals more of the time!

I have been working on the One Page Miracle and Motivation page for about 3 weeks and can’t complete it, so I was hoping to skip that section for now. My only goal for years has been to get through each day.

baby steps- caring for self sometimes has to be learned. Just being on BFL is an indication of motivation. If you are a caregiver it’s important to be your best self, makes it easier to get through and possibly even to thrive.

the one page miracle is a great motivator! Most people will not be able to rely on willpower to change habits for the long run.

I see how it could be, but I can’t complete it.

What is the roadblock?

on March 5, 2016

I am unable to complete the section on Motivation and One Page Miracle. I don’t know how. My motivation in life is to take care of my family, I do that by working and helping raise my kids, take care of the home, etc…I have no goals, dreams or aspirations, other than to survive and continue providing for my family. So completing those two sections is a huge challenge. I haven’t had any friends since I left the Army in 82, and my extended family is not in a position to help me answer these questions. Thanks

Thanks. I would start by filling out the family section, and then work on finances and health. Your work is taking care of your family.  The point of the exercise is to know what you want and then ask yourself every day if your behavior is helping you get what you want. Make sense?

Yes I understand, but how will my behavior help me start a new career/job?  I see how it could help me hold onto the one I have as long as it lasts, or until I am too injured to continue. The health/finance I have some ideas on. Thanks so much for your assistance. I appreciate the program, it’s already helped me better understand myself and why am the way I am.

Intention helps you focus. I just want you to know what you want and over time your brain can help you get it.

Thanks I’ll put my mind to it.
