I just saw this article and how it affects the brain and other systems. Can you please comment on it and if it is possible to get it out of ones system? I have had several MRI’s with contrast and now wonder what the effects may be and how to be proactive in reducing/eliminating it from my  body.I remember asking the tech.about it and she said to drink a lot of water after the MRI and it would leave my body in a day. Please let us know the truth.

I think the answer may not be clear cut here, cnilsen. We are all exposed to various elements throughout our day (air, water, environment, foods, etc.) and some of us will respond negatively to one or another for reasons that are multifaceted. How our bodies respond is complex, and has to do with many other factors including genetics, other toxin exposures, our current state of health, etc. I think this story certainly highlights our need to learn more about gadolinium, but also to focus on what we can do preventatively to support our body to function as optimally as possible through nutrition, exercise, sleep, stress management, etc. so that we have the best chance of protection against something that may be toxic for us, but benign to another. -Coach Zoe

I just saw the following article summary from Dr.Mercola about this topic and how to maximize lessening the toxic exposure.

  • Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a study allowing your physician to see detailed images of your organs and tissues using a large magnet and radio waves
  • Gadolinium-based contrast agents (GBCAs) may be prescribed to enhance the image but the heavy metal gadolinium is known to deposit in your brain, bone and organs
  • The FDA acknowledges the metal may be found in your tissues for years but claims there is no known effect, despite the rising number of people suffering from kidney damage, cognitive dysfunction and muscle wasting
  • Strategies you may consider if an enhanced MRI is absolutely necessary include optimizing your gut and nutrition, eating fermented foods and using a sauna to aid detoxification.
  • MY QUESTION..how is gadolinium measured in the body and what is the test to ask for to see if it is still in the body?

There are a few ways of assessing the level of  this metal in your body. I would suggest asking for a heavy metal screening, which is usually done with urinalysis. Give us a call to speak with one of our integrative physicians who can perform this testing, or speak to your own if you have one.  Best! – Coach Zoe
