Executive Function

In talking about “executive function,” what is meant by “acquiring rules”?  That’s my question.  It seems to me that I have too many rules that interfere with my getting things done in the most efficient and timely manner.  I usually take too long to do most anything.  What kind of rules does this mean?  Thanks for responding. radiantrachel

Dr. Amen discusses executive functioning in his book Change Your Brain, Change Your Life, as well as Healing ADD. It is covered primarily in discussions of the prefrontal cortex.  We need some rules, but having too many can lead to rigidity and inflexibility. Balance is what we are looking for with brain function.
