Excessive sugar, anxiety and depression

Since childhood I enjoyed everything with sugar and treated it as a major food group, lol.  Mental illness runs in my family and at age 32 I fell into depression / anxiety, saw a therapist and was prescribed paxil.  Moving forward 20+ years, I have lead eating clean, minimal alcohol and occasional sugar.  I have been struggling with memory issues lately and recently came across Dr. Amen and am taking Neurovite plus and working on my brain fit life.  I’m also following Dr. Dale Bredesen and he is posting people with mental illness is at the top of the list of coming down with dementia.  Can a brain scan detect early stage of dementia and can this be reversed by using the Danial Amen brain health method?  Would greatly appreciate your feedback, thank you.

Thanks for the question, and it’s great that you’ve done so much to support your health already! The SPECT scan, along with other evaluation avenues during the assessment can differentiate what may be memory issues v. other concerns such as depression/anxiety, and create an individualized plan to optimize your health long-term, ideally transforming current symptoms to improve your well-being overall, including memory. You can read about the full approach to memory issues, along with a couple of case studies using the links above. Best to you!

Hi Coach Zoe, it shows you replied but I don’t see your verbal reply, is there somewhere else I should be looking?
