Ok, so I just read that EMF’s from cell phones/microwaves/etc. can raise your fasting blood sugar.Do you think that is possible? Here is the site if you have a chance to read it..I am interested in your take. This is the first time I have heard this but do you know of other bad EMF effects besides this one? Smart meters? We are surrounded by this stuff …I don’t use a cell/micro/wireless computer..but it is everywhere! Thanks!

Thanks for bringing up this important topic! The effects of chronic and excessive EMF exposure on various tissues of the body continues to be more widely researched and it seems the possibilities of deleterious effects are many, including on blood sugar for some people.

More widely, several studies have reported that exposure to EMF results in oxidative stress, increasing free radical concentrations and potentially overtaxing our antioxidant defense system. In addition to eating an antioxidant-rich diet and taking antioxidants via supplements, intentionally taking technology breaks and limiting constant exposure to electronic devices for periods of time by exploring activities such as “forest bathing”, or walking barefoot on a beach or other earth surface may offer important benefits to both our physiology and our psychology.

My major issues are obesity, insomnia and psoriatic arthritis.  Insomnia is worsened by the muscle aches, joint pains and stabbing pains on my skin that waken me once I do get to sleep.

I had open heart surgery due to aortic stenosis to replace my heart valve 3 years ago, which is when the chronic inflammation began.  Prior to that my exercise was limited for 2 years, because I was on a waiting list for surgery with the Veterans Administration. VA did allow me to do Tai Chi during the waiting period for the surgery, which was a great preparation in mindfulness in preparation for the surgery and kept my circulation consistent.

With the help of Dr. Amen’s suggestions on PBS Atlanta, I began a modified anti inflammatory diet, increasing my vegetable and fruit consumption and limiting my animal protein to 5 ounces per day. I also started going for increasingly long walks.  I started out post surgery very dependent on a walker, but was able to become totally independent of the walker 18 months post surgery.  The VA offered no cardiac rehab to me post surgery.  I weighed 265 post surgery 3 years ago and I am only 5ft. 1 in.  My cholesterol was well over 300 and Triglycerides were over 400.  I was unable to tolerate statins because they locked up my joints and muscles.

Although I remain significantly overweight at 204, that is a lot of progress.  My total Cholesterol is 267, down from 325 eighteen months ago. My good Cholesterol is in a much more helpful range. My Triglycerides have gone from a high of 463 down over 100 points to 356.

I know I have a long way to go, but I have come so far that I intend to make a full commitment to this program, that I just got by donating $20 a month to PBS.  Convinced by the results I have already had, I am certain that if I adhere to this program strictly I will make even faster progress.

My present risk may be my tendency to obsess on following this to extremes! LOL!

Since the open heart surgery, in the last 18 months I have had a laproscopic oophorectomy (Non cancerous) and a rectocele and cystocele repair.  Those were both done last year after a long time on the waiting list with far too many Antibiotics prescribed by the VA. Following Dr. Amen’s dietary suggestions and then refusing to leave the VA until they gave me an appointment with a Nutritionist, I got better far quicker than anyone expected.  I can now run up a flight of stairs and keep up with my 40 year old daughter. I am 66.  Before, if there was no elevator or escalator, I just couldn’t get up them. I look forward to further work on the anti-inflammatory diet, which I hope to follow exactly and I will be getting more exercise advice from the physical therapist at our Senior Center.  DO YOU  HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS ABOUT WHICH PART OF YOUR PROGRAM I SHOULD INTENSELY FOCUS ON AT THIS TIME?? ANY LIST OF ANTI-INFLAMMATORY SUPER FOODS THAT MIGHT CALM MY GUT AND PSORIASIS??

Wow! Congratulations on all of your major health shifts–truly remarkable! We are so glad you are joining us here and sharing your inspirational story. Thank you for supporting our work!

For your next area to focus, I would strongly encourage you to consider are assessing for food allergies (often indicated by arthritis, insomnia, and difficulty losing weight). When we eat foods we have sensitivities or allergies to, it causes systemic inflammation, but also can inhibit the function of our immune system and neurotransmitter synthesis, since both of these stem primarily from the gut! You can do a food allergy panel to assess for this, or an elimination diet protocol which removes many of the most aggravating foods (wheat, corn, dairy, soy, eggs, and sugar) for a few weeks before “testing” each food to see if there is a reaction. Because of your arthritis, I would also recommend eliminating nightshades (potatoes, eggplant, peppers, tomatoes) to test for sensitivity to these, as they are often a culprit in arthritic symptoms.

If you are following an anti-inflammatory diet, I will assume you are avoiding the major pro-inflammatory foods, including sugar, white flour, trans fats, and processed foods as much as possible. Vegetables, in a variety of colors, are ideally present at every meal, along with healthy fats (omega-3 rich fish, nuts/seeds, olive oil, avocado) and adequate protein for your needs. If you do not get in vegetables throughout the day, I would suggest supplementing with a Green Vibrance, Amazing Grass, or other greens supplement, as these can fill the gaps we may be missing in our diet.

Additionally, because of your antibiotic use especially, implementing gut healing agents regularly in your diet such as probiotic foods (ie: sauerkraut and plant-based yogurt/kefir), prebiotics (fiber-rich foods), and l-glutamine supplementation may be important. You also want to drink plenty of filtered water throughout the day to keep the bowels moving regularly.

Working on a gut-healing protocol can often address the root cause of many symptoms we would otherwise consider only treating acutely. Since you’ve been on so many antibiotics in the recent past there is no doubt a need to revitalize and restore your gut health. This can help calm systemic inflammation, and potentially bring more balance to your sleep as well.

Hope this helps!

Does that sound like a good plan?

Sounds like a good plan! There’s no harm in doing both the SMS and greens at the same time, but I am assuming you are interested in seeing the effects of each one?

Best!

Zoe

I just ordered the Brain and Body Power supplement samples for free and will start my subscription to those as well.

My VA provider agrees with the use of a high omega 3 dose for a case like mine. She says the others might offer “some minor relief for the cognitive and neurological issues” she sees in my VA record.  She has scheduled me for 3 more tests this month to address sources of “Inflammation issues”.  She remains a skeptic about everything, except the high Omega 3 supplement and Dr. Amen’s cognitive techniques.

She didn’t know me before I emerged from THE FOG.  I am also getting more agile and  sleeping better this month.

So great to hear that you are getting more agile and sleeping better. Love it! Hopefully your progress will be good information for your skeptic practitioner. 🙂

I live in a Senior community where we have recently acquired a chef that previously worked at St. Mary’s Hospital in Athens, Georgia. But, his food tastes better than most of the best restaurants in town.  His menus offer daily wellness options include stuffed portabello mushrooms, baked and broiled fish available 7 days a week with a variety of glazes and toppings that are vegetable and or fruit based with curry and saffron spices and a wide range vegetable choices.  He is a perfectionist both in the area flavor and nutrition.  He introduces the healthier items with descriptions that make even the most die hard Southern Fried food lover look forward to giving something else a try.  He also reconstructs the traditional southern recipes and prepares them with marinades in the oven.  They are moist in the center and so flavorful, but their crusts are baked without oil.

Needless to say I am spoiled.  We only get one meal a day in the dining room, so I am cooking in my apartment for other meals.  I order organics from Amazon, and seasonals from the University of Georgia Organic Gardens, as well as medicinal herbs and teas. We also have 2 farmers markets per week within 2 miles of here during the growing seasons with local organic farmers.  The Athens Community Council on Aging has their own gardens and Agriculture Students there teaching us organic methods and even doing cooking demos for things like cous cous and many tasty vegetables not very familiar to most southerners.

The important thing is, I would not have known how to select from these wonderful opportunities, nor what a difference it could make in my life, recovery and health, without Dr. Amen and Tana’s presentations on PBS.  My writing ability has even returned and I was too foggy brained to concentrate on anything before this time last year.

Thank you for giving me this additional information today.  I will look into it further as well and apply it to my new goals.  Getting the gut balanced, while continuing to lose more weight as a lifestyle, is my priority for this year.

Presently my energy changes from week to week based on how my immune system is functioning.  I am certain that the new tools in this website will continue to restore my health.  Perhaps as a Brain Type 10 I am “Relentless”, but my relentlessness has been helping me to find ways to heal.  Perhaps my Brain Type will modify itself as my health improves……..

I have spent most of my life helping young people overcome horrendous obstacles.  Now it is time to turn the focus of my skills on taking care of my own healing.         Thank you!

Cnilsen :  The effects of electromagnetic pulse or frequency can be quite acute.

Many years ago I passed out at while working building customized computers in a factory, some of which were being shipped to the Fermi Labs (top secret particle accelerator-since declassified).  My bench was directly under a recently installed cable that was transmitting rapid encrypted downloads to our software installation center.  It was supposed to fully sheathed throughout the plant. Unfortunately, when the cable was installed a shortcut was taken and the sheathing was not intact in a place they had to get it through a wall conduit.  To make is fit a too small duct, they removed the sheathing for passage through  the 12 inch wall that my bench was up against.

When I saw a specialist, who was experienced with such events as an U.S. Air Force Flight Surgeon, after extensive testing he informed me that I had acute hypothyroid disorder.  I was put on Thyroid medications and my other extensive symptoms completely abated after six months of treatment.  Fortunately, it did not result in a cancerous condition, just temporary hypothyroidism.  I was told that I was very lucky when I no longer needed to continue treatment for thyroid issues after only one year.

Needless to say, I am regularly assessed by the Veterans Administration for thyroid issues, due to the fact that I was also exposed to electromagnetic frequencies  on my Air Base during the years that they were developing the first  known version of the internet and other electronic warfare equipment at the Avionics center that was only 8 football fields distance from my Base Housing.
