Craving sugary foods

Hi, I’ve been following the Amen plan for more than a month and doing great. But the last week I’ve been often craving sugary foods. So I’ve been doing my “healthy versions” but I’m over eating.

I’m eating a lot of almond butter (that’s my ultimate comfort food in the boundaries of my diet). The problem is that I eat a lot of calories from the almond butter, or from salted mixed nuts. I also ate 3 bananas in the last two days.
How can I stop these cravings? It might have to do that I’ve been stressed out and tired lately.
Thank you!

Hi Meti. Make sure you are starting the day with a protein based breakfast, and have protein every 3 hours (eggs, chicken, fish, hemp, etc.) to maintain your blood sugar levels. Look at the ingredients list of your almond butter and see if it has sugar (many do), which could be contributing to your sugar cravings. Craving Control is great for helping you to adjust to sugar free eating, so that’s another resource you can use on a biological level.

Additionally, stress contributes to cravings as well, so try to give yourself some outlets for stress relief (friends, humor, creativity, movement, etc.). This can be used both acutely (when you are craving something sweet), and as a preventative measure.

Hope that helps! – Coach Zoe
