Covid vaccines and the brain

Just wondering the initial and potential future effects of each Covid vaccine on the brain. It must affect the brain if people get headaches afterwards, no? If it does, how long and what can be done to mitigate and get it out of the brain quickly, if possible? Thanks!

Thanks for the question! While extensive specifics of this are beyond my scope of practice and knowledge, we know from medical literature that there is growing evidence on the impact of the covid-19 virus on neurological function long-term. The vaccines have been found to be greatly protective against serious effects of this virus, including this potential impact on neurological health. Side effects from the vaccine like headaches are a normal immune response thought to be caused in part by certain immunological proteins’ (cytokines) influence on vasodilation and pain perception.

To support our immune system and brain health, we want to support the integrity of of nervous system and gut health (intricately linked to immunity) by caring for ourselves through sound nutrition high in omega-3 fatty acids, key vitamins and minerals (D, C, magnesium, zinc), and pre/probiotics as well as regular exercise, restorative sleep, stress attendance, social connections, and all the other ways encouraged throughout Brain Fit Life.

It has been a few months since my question..now we have info on J/J and Astra Zeneca causing blood clots. Though it presently is a small # of people, if you are one of those people, it is not a small amount. I also have a friend (62) who got breast lumps (benign) after the Moderna shot (her MD told her this) and she said she had read about this too. I had never seen this info, it makes me wonder how we will ever get the true story on any of the vaccine reactions. What is your update about what you know? Thanks so much!

Experts in the field of immunity, pathology, and neurology all attest to the much higher benefit to vaccination than detriment. We have now lost over 3 million people around the world to this virus, so while of course, as you say, if you are experiencing side effects it is no small thing, the consequences of NOT getting vaccinated are far worse, for far more people. Please reference the World Health Organization’s website here where they answer common questions about vaccine safety.

Hello all, first post.  I did take the vax (J&J) but share the OP’s concerns.  I have mixed feelings about having taken it, especially after the pause, but hope for the best.  Also understand the larger point and concerns of Coach Zoe.

Truth is we do not have those long term answers.  I am worried about the effects of some other medicines I need to take that can have clotting side effects after taking the vax, and have put off starting those medications out of concern.

My 94 year old (healthy) neighbor took the Phizer, was fine until his second shot, got bad side effects afterward and died a week later.  Was it being 94 that caused his death or a reaction to the vax?  I have no idea.  But the questions are legitimate.

I have talked to many, not all anti-vaxxers, who would not take it under any circumstances. I also know someone whose daughter who is a covid nurse who is adamant that the whole family take the vaccine, and one can only imagine what she has seen come through her unit.

From a public health perspective, macro, it’s necessary to vaccinate as many people as possible to get this under control. Just take a look at what’s going on in India right now. It’s not a hoax, it’s not the flu, it’s not a joke.   The vaccines, if safe, are a miracle that will save countless lives from a very ugly death.  From a personal perspective, micro, matters can be much more complicated as people wrestle with the choices based on their own individual health and situations.
