Should Collagen powder be added to our regimen? If so, is tablet form as good? If so, is there a particular brand recommended? Thanks.

Collagen has some great health benefits, and can be a good addition to a supplement regimen depending on what else you are doing to take care of yourself. There are also collagen rich foods or those that promote collagen production that you can include in your diet. These include fish, citrus fruits, cruciferous vegetables, greens, and bone broth. What are you considering using it for, Allennita?

I just turned 71 and I hear a lot of hype about bone health, joint health and skin and hair health. I hate the taste of bone broth. I’m told I have fibromyalgia. I suffer with muscular pain in many areas of my body. I would like to improve my skin and hair and joint health wouldn’t hurt. I eat lots of broccoli, kale and salmon. Is there a test I can take to determine if I need more collagen in my diet?

There are no simple lab tests to determine whether you need collagen supplementation, but based on your symptoms it may be helpful for you. I would discuss this with a nutritionally informed physician who has your whole health history, but if you decide to pursue a supplement on your own, make sure it is from an organic, grass fed source to avoid the toxins present in animals from poorly fed environments. – Coach Zoe
