I wonder what the effect of chronic pain is on brain health ? I know that when I feel pain I feel anxiety and this can lead to feeling blue, which makes the pain feel worse. Is there help for this cycle?

Hello Brennie,
I am in the same boat, he pain. As a fellow sufferer, the only way that I know to stop the cycle unfortunately is to stop the pain and we both know that is easier said then done. I refuse to take pain medication, I stopped going to the doctors because no one can tell me anything. It gets rather depressing, hence the continuation of the cycle. Sorry such a downer, I am currently in a down cycle..
Mindfulness and meditation practices for pain can offer considerable relief for some patients. We have some pain specific audio meditations available here on our site. You might also check for local clinics/hospitals that offer workshops in teaching these kinds of tools. I have worked with many patients who have experienced great relief from having gone through those kinds of courses. Best to you. -Coach Zoe
thank you- I will try the audio meditation. When I have flare ups I certainly need a management strategy.
If i may throw my 2 cents into this conversation here are a few suggestions. First, try acupuncture as i have had amazing results in regards to pain. Several years ago i had some disc issues and in just 2 sessions my pain went from a 10 to a 0. While my results are not typical i clearly found a gem of an acupuncturist and am have no intentions of letter her go. Here are a few things to consider when looking for a good practitioner. First, don’t go to someone that is treating a bunch of people in different rooms at the same time as your treatment as you are the patient and that is your time therefore all the attention should be given to you. Next, if the practitioner is recommended from someone else, find out why they were getting treated and as many details about the treatment itself. Now you have as much info as possible in order to make an informed decision. Finally, whom ever you see, when you call to make the appointment notice how much time they give you. If they rush you off the phone chances are they will rush you out of the office. The intention of the practitioner is almost as important as the treatment itself. If you are unable to afford an independent person, look up local acupuncture schools near you and go to the student clinic. Before i found my practitioner, i had pretty good success with other issues i was dealing with going to a student clinic. Good luck
thank you- I have never tried acupuncture but I am open to trying it.
