I have read and have a friend who has used bergamot successfully to lower cholesterol. Is there any science behind this? She took pills, but may there be a benefit of essential oil usage? Thanks so much!

Yes, there is actually quite a bit of science behind its use orally due to its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. This is true of other high polyphenol substances such as berberine and artichoke as well. Powerful plants!

The essential oil of bergamot has been primarily researched for nervous system support such as for anxiety, cognition, pain and depression. Really great stuff here if you’d like to read about some of the research.

Best!

You are amazing! I appreciate all the research info. The bergamot has so many benefits! Is there a preferred area of the body to place it? Is inhalation of it beneficial and safe? Thanks again for all your help!

Inhalation is generally considered very safe for most people. I would suggest placing it where you will be able to smell it most, whether in a diffuser for a small room, adding it to a base oil to use on your skin, or putting a few drops on your pillow if using it while you sleep. Enjoy!
