Calories for breastfeeding

Hi. I’m 39 years old and breastfeeding my 4th child. Lately I am worried my baby is not getting enough nutrition from me. I’m not sure how much milk I’m producing and if my milk supply is enough due to age and trying to figure out a new diet. I’ve never been one to count calories. I have no idea how many calories I need to consume while nursing and if I need to consume even more if my milk supply is low.

I would encourage you to speak with a lactation consultant to address your concerns and make you feel more secure about feeding your baby what s/he needs. La Leche League has incredible resources available on breastfeeding, and you can search for local support in your part of the country. Here’s a link to their website page on low milk supply: https://lllusa.org/low-milk-supply/

Best!
