Beef / Steak

Hi all, I’m new to this membership and enjoy it so far. I have an old article that someone made a copy for me years ago about a “mind diet”. It was not this “mind diet”. In that article they say all red meat is off limits. Same with sugar and chocolate. I was sad as I like steak and chocolate. However with Dr Amens book “memory rescue” and recipies I see here, people include steak like sirloin etc. Is it OK to eat a steak/red meat occasionally (not over do it) as long as it is organic/grass fed? Is that good for someone like me with type 1 brain and 63 and on aricept? I sure hope so. How about chocolate? Thanks in advance

Hello, and welcome! Glad you are enjoying your membership!

Yes, eating red meat on occasion is fine, and grass-finished beef from a humane farm is best whenever possible. And dark chocolate, ideally over 70% cacao, is also delicious to have on occasion. The foundation of a brain healthy diet, especially for your more ‘balanced’ brain type, is to have a variety of whole foods from various sources and colors. Enjoy!
