I have a question about anxiety. I have noticed increasing anxiety especially after gong through menopause, I love your website, it has helped me so much with finding help to relieve my anxiety, and providing a wealth of information to research and understand whats going on. And just as Im feeling better, and thinking I have a hand on this , I start feeling a pressure like heaviness actually in my head…at least it feels that way…I think its a physical  result of anxiety…and when it come on I start worrying that Ill never get past this… my doctor thinks anti anxiety medication forever is the only solution…. but I don’t want to be on medication. Does anyone else feel this heaviness?

Sincere apologies on not seeing this post until now! Menopausal changes in hormone production can certainly bring a host of symptoms. Many of these, including anxiety, can be well-managed through lifestyle interventions (nutrition, sleep, emotional support, limiting toxin exposure, stress management, exercise, etc.).

Additionally, there are some nutraceutical interventions that can be worth exploring as well. For instance, many Americans get insufficient magnesium in their diet, and this mineral has a wonderful calming effect on the brain and the body. Our GABA Calming supplement has a combination of magnesium, B-6, lemon balm, and GABA, the primary anti-anxiety neurotransmitter. Depending on the level of anxiety support you need, 1-6 capsules can be taken throughout the day, preferably on an empty stomach.

And depending on your dietary restrictions and needs, it can be helpful to regularly include foods rich in magnesium and B-6 such as pumpkin seeds, walnuts, spinach, chard, quinoa, sunflower seeds, turkey, salmon, chicken, sweet potato, and banana.

Finally, there are herbal combinations that can be very helpful during menopause to ease symptoms related to the body’s natural changes, so working with a functional medicine practitioner or naturopathic physician to explore these may be worthwhile.

Best!
