Anger

I’ve been working on the Feel Better Fast and Make it Last program and have been doing really well. The only problem I seem to have is anger when criticized. I know Dr. Amen had this challenge in his journey. Is there one part of the program that I should concentrate on more that others to help with this issue?

Thanks for your post, and I’m very glad to hear you’ve been doing well with the program so far. In addition to the foundational aspects of the program (whole-foods nutrition, regular movement, restorative sleep, etc.), I would recommend regular use of our meditation audios such as Loving Kindness or 12-minute meditation. These types of activities add to our internal resources, and thus increase our ability to tolerate criticism or other triggers for anger.

Additionally, if you haven’t done so, I would consider talking to someone or journaling about the story of criticism in your life. Often when we can witness for ourselves (through journaling) or have someone else witness (as in counseling) the source of our pain in a particular area it has a greater likelihood of dissolving or transforming. If we don’t do this, we are more likely to be triggered by present-day situations, when our emotions actually live in a past event/s.

I hope that helps! Let us know if you need more support!
