Adjustments needed after colon surgery?

I had 7 inches of my colon remover a few years ago. If i adopt the ADD diet, and supplement program, will I need to make any adjustments. I’m told raw veggies, nuts and seeds, and other food recommended by Dr Amen need to be limited. Others say it’s OK to return to a nomad diet as the body will make adjustments. Any recommendation?

The reason you find differing advice is because there is some variation between individuals in terms of what foods can be tolerated post-surgery. Since you are three years out, your body has probably largely adjusted to the surgery. If you have been limiting your diet, you could try slowly adding in new foods in small amounts to see how you tolerate them. Since the colon’s primary functions include mineral and water absorption, you may need a nutrient lab panel to determine if you have any extra mineral needs (which many of us do for a variety of reasons).

Best!

Thanks. I’ve had recent blood tests that show low calcium, magnesium and trace minerals.

So a good multimineral supplement may be important for you to take. Foods rich in minerals are the whole foods emphasized in our recipes including dark green vegetables, seeds and nuts, sea veggies, beans, lentils, and sardines.
