I guess I started my discussion on the wrong page.  I have been on this program for about a month and I have gotten worse not better.  I get headaches when I do the meditation and I am sinking even further into depression.  I have  stopped the self medicating (marijuana) and I am eating healthy but I just get further and further down the rabbit hole.  I have had several head injuries in my life and knocked out unconscious on 2 accounts.  I do believe in this program and I am looking for some answers to help me feel better.  I am so tired of this feeling like a zombie and hoping some one could help out.  I have felt like this for more than 20yrs and I have had enough.  Please help.

Thanks for reaching out, wannabe. I’m very sorry to hear you are feeling so bad right now. I applaud your efforts in stopping the self-medication of marijuana use, and getting on the healthy eating path. When we start to make shifts, especially away from things that may have been “masking” our symptoms, such as marijuana, we can feel worse at first until we can find some healthier ways to take care of ourselves. I wonder if you think talking with someone one on one might be a good place to start? It sounds like you could use some individual support for a while to get you feeling like you are on the right track. We offer private coaching sessions if you are interested, and they can be done on the phone or in person. Otherwise I would encourage the following:

  • Journal daily: even brief, non-sensical writing can get feelings and thoughts out of our bodies, and start to transform them. Consider using the gratitude exercise on this site for a positive end to your journal writing.
  • Exercise: If you don’t have an exercise program in place, consider starting by walking briskly for 10 minutes each day, then gradually increase. Exercise has been proven to markedly improve mood and outlook.
  • Consider Supplements: Vitamin D, Multivitamin, and Fish Oil are some of the most essential supplements we need for optimal brain health.

Those are just starting points. If you continue to feel things are worsening, I would strongly encourage you to meet with a counselor or coach. There is great hope for improvement, it just might take a little time to figure out the formula for you!

Dear wannabe.. Way to go!! You have kicked your pot to the curb side and started eating healthy!! This sounds like huge progress to me!! I would not hesitate to seek medical advice over and above this site.. The more support we can get the better!! It takes so much courage to share your feelings so honestly and openly as you have!

Wannabe, I am sorry you are going through this!  Did you start your own discussion line under this “Ask A Coach” section?  If so, I did not see it.  If you have not done that yet, I hope you will try it.  It may be the quickest way to flag a Coach.  You can also try sending a message directly to Dr. Amen or one of the other coaches through clicking on their image at any of their posted messages.  (Not sure that works for them or not, but it works for the rest of us.) You probably already know all about these but, just in case you don’t, some things that have helped me are: high-quality Omega-3 capsules (with both EPA and DHA), a high-potency probiotic, Vitamin D3, and magnesium.  Of course, I take a great multivitamin, too. How is your sleep?

Wannabe: you can also consider to call the clinic and set up a phone appointment. That could give you more personalized suggestions.
