Since my husband and I heard Dr. Amen audio book, we are sold!!  Refined sugar is out of our diet and we eat more and more fruits and veggies!!  We also drink decaf green tea though out the day… My husband lost 3 pounds so far and I sleep soundly now and wake up refreshed and not groggy like before!!  So blessed to have this knowledge and share it with people…

So wonderful to hear of your success! Thanks so much for sharing with us!

That is so great to hear!  I am trying to give up the sugar, too.

Yes sugar cravings are difficult at times… especially See’s Chocolate..lol  My husband bought me a box for V.Day and I only ate 2 of them.  That is the last refined sugar I’ve eaten.  We found an organic ketch up that uses agave for sweetener that is really good!!  I found a organic peanut butter that is sugar free.  Wasn’t sure how it would taste, but found it is good as well!!  I have celiac sprue so I am gluten-free as well!!  I just feel so much better since i eliminated sugar!!  I have so much more energy and i’m not jittery or anxious anymore!!  There are so many people on our church prayer list, and i feel like a lot of them could benefit from Dr Amen program!!  Do you have a any suggestions how to talk with people about this??

Wow, you are awesome in self-discipline to only eat two of See’s Chocolates!  But, that is the addict in me speaking.  Maybe it’s not as hard as I think.  (It’s not as if we have to give up chocolate, since Dr. Amen makes chocolate bars that are gluten and sugar free and so does “Lily’s Sweets”.) As for the people you wish you could help, I see the same here.  I’ve probably annoyed family, friends, and general acquaintances by trying to share the good information I’m learning.  In the past, when others have tried to give ME helpful information, I have been resistant, too.   But, maybe you could get a copy or two of THE DANIEL PLAN into your church library and talk it up a little. —  Or, maybe that’s what I should do.

I had the same experience when I overcame my Type 2 Diabetes 4 years ago.  I found 2 kinds of reactions from those who saw it happen — intense curiosity and encouragement to teach others to do the same; and some were just curious.  I followed the encouragement of those who said I should teach others how to do it, so I became a Health Coach with training from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition.  I have been teaching others how to get over the sugar and other simple carb addiction issues for 2 years now.  What I have found is among the population of those with Metabolic Syndrome, Pre-diabetes or Type 2 Diabetes, there are basically 3 subgroups — (1) those who are in denial and don’t want to do anything about it, (2) those who just want to manage it using the usual Standard of Care (Crap). big pharma approach (my sister-in-law actually said she would rather have the cake and ice cream at a birthday party and take more Metformin, that change her lifestyle), and those who really are sick and tired of it and will do what it takes to get over it. Those are the people I help.  You have to remember, not everyone really wants to fix it in themselves.

I like your suggestions of Dr. Amen’s products and the Lily’s Sweets.  I not only use Lily’s, but I have learned to make my own chocolate bars from raw cacao paste, erythritol, stevia and whatever mixed nuts and/or seasonings I like as well.  I guarantee you essential oils like cinnamon, tangerine, and or peppermint are great additions.  I have also made a scrumptious cumin/coriander version that went over very well with my family.

What quantities do you use?  Will you share a recipe?

You might also talk about Brain Fit Life as a support tool you use to keep motivated to take better care of yourself. Sometimes if we come at suggestions for our friends and families wellness more broadly, they are apt to hear what they most need to hear a bit better. For instance, a friend may be motivated to start exercising, but not ready to look at nutrition, or she/he may be motivated to get better sleep, but doesn’t want to take supplements. If one spoke on the wheel is effected, it eventually has a domino effect on the others. Offering what you do here on Brain Fit Life, because it offers so many tools in so many categories of health, may give them an “in” to start working on their “starter spoke” so to speak.

Thank you for all the great idea’s to share with people!!  I will look up Lily’s chocolates too.  I do love chocolate!!  We are selling our house and in the whole process of thinking about getting ready for market (we have not updated our house for 18 yrs) so much work to do!!  I try to do my exercises on my brain fit life every morning as  it helps me focus better and not get stressed!!
I love the all around approach to this program… it works!!

I am also interested in going sugar free- it is an addiction I think, harder for me than quitting smoking which I did 20 years ago.   Unfortunately replaced smoking with sugar – especially baking – which is like a drug for me.

I love to bake as well!!  I make pie’s and carmel rolls…but now I have to figure out how to alter the recipes and use steeva or agava for sugar. Are there any other sugar alternatives??  I haven’t tried anything yet, but I need to start soon, as I am wanting to bake again!!  Lily’s Sweets i plan to look up also… The main thing that makes me stick to this is I feel so much better!!  I got on my Amazon acct and ordered Dr Amen DVD set and paperback book.  I plan to pass the DVD around our church.  I have recruited the Pastor’s wife to start and pass it when she is done.  Feel so bad for her because she is a diabetic and is legally blind from it..What is more sad is if she could of stayed away from sweets when she was pre-diabetic, she would not of got diabetes.  Her doctor warned her, but she told me she couldn’t listen because she loved to bake and make sweets. She is in her late 60’s at present.. but never to late to start and maybe help her manage her diabetes better. She takes a lot of insulin.  I believe this could take off and help a lot of people..

I haven’t tried baking with stevia yet – I’ve read that brown rice syrup is also a sweetener that does not play around with blood sugar.  How is sugar free making you feel?  I’ve heard that there can be a withdrawal process.

For what it’s worth on the other topic, when I eat things I know very well are not good choices, I can usually get away with a one-time thing with little to no trouble.  If I persist for a whole day or two, I begin to not feel well.  Then I remember that I used to feel that way all the time and thought it was normal.  I never want to go back to that!

Sally, does unrefined coconut sugar have a coconut taste??  reason i ask is i dislike coconut..
also can you use it cup for cup like regular sugar in a recipe??

on March 1, 2016

Not sure about the taste.  Maybe so.  (I like coconut.)  As for the cup for cup part, I am ignorant on that, too.  I’ve used recipes that call for it.  Sometimes I use a little for sweetening something in an experimental way.

Yes unrefined coconut sugar tastes like coconut!

Tana bakes with erythritol.  Try some of the dessert recipes.  Try the Nutty Butter Cups. They are amazing and one a day is good for you.

on February 29, 2016

They sound good.

Thanks everyone… I’m going to look into the nutty butter cups… i’m craving dessert lately!!
I think it’s been 3wks now sugar free… our lifestyle before Dr Amen was to have a bowl on ice cream with chocolate syrup, peanuts and banana’s before bed.  Was really good, but I would toss and turn for quite a while before went to sleep and now I know why lol
