Thanks for highlighting this therapy! Photobiomodulation, which uses red or near-infrared light, is showing great promise and benefit for a variety of psychological and neurological conditions. This review by Salehpour et al does a great job of summarizing what we have learned through research thus far, and what more can be done to optimize use. As a quicker summary, I would steer you to the Table 3 summary of research on a variety of neurological conditions to note the benefit from this light therapy on improving brain function through a variety of mechanisms and decreasing symptoms of many conditions (TBI, dementia, depression, Alzheimer’s, anxiety, PTSD, etc.).

Yes, there are some clinics around the country that provide this and you can also get at-home devices to use yourself. I would encourage you to search for photobiomodulation + your location to see what’s available near you. Best!
