Tinnitus

Any new ideas on getting rid of the ringing? It is loudest in my R ear. Is there a brain connection to why this is happening? I used to have amazing hearing as a child. I think it started when I had MRI’s about 20 years ago.. The sound was super loud, even with headphones. If anyone out there has ideas, I am open to suggestions too. Thanks!

Insufficient intake or absorption of Vitamin B-12 and Vitamin D have been linked to tinnitus and may help remedy this in those who are deficient. Many people are low in vitamin D due to lack of mid-day sun or wearing sunblock (it’s a balance!), and absorption of vitamin B-12 can be difficult for those who are low in stomach acid (naturally decreases as we age), have GI issues, or who don’t eat adequate protein.

I’ve also had several patients who have had great results from acupuncture if you’re open to that suggestion. I would recommend considering trying both of these for addressing acute and preventative care.

Would you recommend B12 injections or how much in a pill? I already take the Brain vitamins from Dr. Amen. I already go to acupuncture 1x a month. I know ear acupuncture is a specialty since I read it in the WHAT DOCTORS DON’T TELL YOU magazine but have not been able to find this specialty in the Chicago area. My Vit D level was 60 last April and has been in the same range for the past 4 years. How do I know if I am absorbing Vit.D properly?

In most cases, the goal for a B-12 lab result should be >700 pg/mL. If sub-optimal, taking a sublingual tablet or capsule supplement with 500 mcg/day until reached can be helpful to get up to the optimal range. Depending on which BrainMD supplements you are taking, you may already be getting sufficient amounts. For example, in the Neurovite Plus, you would get 500 mcg.

And it sounds like from your blood results that you are absorbing vitamin D, as you are in the optimal range. Good for you!

Thanks so much! I appreciate all your fantastic advice! I take the regular Brain and Body Power pills which is 500  mcg.1x a day so I guess that is ok.
