In my family, we do regular hiking, walks around the neighborhood, fun wrestling at home, and in the summer, lots of swimming! What are ways you like to move together?
One thing that comes to mind…being retired and not having “family” in the house, I love to walk morning and afternoon with my dog. We always go where the neighborhood kids are playing and spend time with them. They love my dog and she loves them and has such a good time. It’s a positive and happy time I look forward to each day. Exercise and good company are good for the body and spirit!
In college (years ago) I went “International Folk Dancing”. There are lots of line dances that you don’t need a partner for. Some retirement centers have line dancing as part of their recreation activities. Maybe the Recreation Department in your area has something of the sort. Or you could check with any college to see if they have one. Cost is usually nominal. Square Dancing is fun, but you must have a partner. Note that flip flops are not recommended for line dancing.
Two days ago I was walking my dog, & I was so happy that I spontaneously started a 6 count stepping, shuffling step to the right, the reverse direction to the left followed by 12 shuffling steps then landing on the 13th and pause. The whole sequence repeats to the other side. I don’t remember the dance’s name. I think it is a Balkan dance. People notice when you do stuff like that and say you must be happy.
I have a lifetime love affair with anything outdoors- running mostly, but also walking my dog, biking, hiking, and swimming and ballroom dancing. I count my steps on Google fit and make a goal of getting over an hour of exercise each day. It really helps me feel good and eat right.
Wonderful! Being outside adds such important benefits to exercise–fresh air, sunshine (Vitamin D!), and connection to the natural world! And enjoying our exercise is the most sustainable way to keep movement in our lives permanently and without resistance. Great to hear of your lifetime love affair!
