Better Together

A big hello to my BFL family…

There have been very few posts lately, so I’m finding myself missing all of you!
Have a meaningful Sunday…in whatever way that works best for you!!!
I haven’t been sleeping very well, again…am enjoying a better attitude in spite of sleeplessness, so I believe following BFL is helping me adjust my mood and emotions in a positive direction.
I’m thankful for that…very thankful!!!

I never know where to post or reply, I don’t really get the “thread” idea of this communication board.  I try to watch for  posts from familiar members.  Sorry to hear that you are having insomnia issues- it can be very distressing.

on February 8, 2016

I know exactly what you mean.  This board doesn’t seem to be very intuitive—-don’t know where to post.  But I enjoy reading from all of you.

I am having the same trouble. Today I seem to be finding my way around better.

I’m new here, and bewildered.  As to the sleeplessness—have you tried the hypnosis site for sleep.  It is great, but I’m a strong believer in self-hypnosis.  I wish you well.

The above post was meant to be a reply to Chellenor.  When I clicked on reply, it whisked me to where I posted, and it turned out to be under Brennie 124163.  Sorry.

FloridaGal, yes, the hypnosis meditations that Dr Amen provides have REALLY HELPED me a lot!  I particularly like the ones for Pain and Peak Performance.  Imagining the beautiful garden and healing pool is very relaxing and soothing.  The sleep hypnosis didn’t seem to help me as much, but I used them and learned to use my own modified version that works pretty well.  Some nights my body still pumps too much adrenalin and that won’t let me sleep.

Thank you Brennie and FloridaGal for replying!  I was happy to hear from you!

Chellenor- have you ever tried a white noise machine? I find it very soothing. There are also some accupressure points that can calm you down when anxiety or adrenaline are keeping you overly alert.

on February 9, 2016

Yes, Brennie, I have used white noise and it helps.  Please tell me more about the acupressure points you refer to.  Acupressure and acupuncture always seem to help me a lot.  I’d love to learn more!

The accupressure point I use for calming is on the side of the hand- little or pinky finger side down towards the wrist bone you can feel a natural little notch – you can find it by sliding you fingers down the side of the hand and you’ll find the indent.  Firm pressure on the point for 15 seconds or so,  Then do the same on the other hand. I have used this technique for insomnia and also when flying- I am not calm in the air!
Just alternate handsa couple of times until you feel calmer.. hope it works for you.

Thanks for that idea. I’m going to try it plus nobody would know you are doing it. This is my first day and am so glad I found you.

How wonderful to hear that you are taking advantage of Dr. Amen’s meditations, as well as the BFL site in a way that you’re really feeling! Your gratitude is helpful for all of us!
Some comments on sleep in general: There are so many reasons for sleeplessness, but a routine around sleep is extremely beneficial to create if you don’t have one already. Turning off ALL electronics at least one hour before bed, and dimming lights, having a hot cup of herbal tea, etc. can help prepare your body for rest. When we try to go from high stimulation to rest without any transition time, it can make falling asleep difficult, and deeper sleep harder to attain. Addressing nutrition intake throughout the day, minimizing caffeine, sugar, and the like, can also help to maximize our resting time. My daughter loves the smell of lavender, and putting a few drops on her pillow before bed, helps to calm her down. Hope some of these suggestions help!

I’m glad you gave a shout out to the community, Chellenor!  I wish Somasyntax, Miriam, Envy, Grateful and others would post more often.  (And maybe they do, and I just don’t recognize some of them without their old names.)

Yes where is everyone?

on February 11, 2016

Brennie and Sally4th, I’m thinking many of our former BFLers abandoned ship when things changed, but we can rebuild.  There are many newcomers, and some old friends are sure to return.  I’m thankful to have this forum with others who are on the same path with me!

This is my first day and am thrilled. I bought the whole program on PBS and there is soooo much, this is where I’m starting. Yes, yes, yes I need the BFL family for guidance and encouragement. Just tell me what I should do, let’s just say I haven’t mastered the computer yet! My thanks and best wishes to all.
