Better Together

antibiotic use

Hello,

I just started using your program…joined a few days ago and love it!  After watching the DVDs, and learning the importance of gut health, I am wondering if I should take more probiotics?  I had Lyme disease and was on a cocktail of antibiotics for seven years.  The cocktails would usually consist of three different antibiotics taken simultaneously twice a day on Mondays and Wednesdays.  On Thursdays, I had to take Flagyl.  On Fridays, I took the original cocktail plus the flagyl twice a day.  The weekends I had off.  I could do this for three weeks, then get a week off.  Usually, when I would go back to my Lyme doc, he would adjust the cocktail and we would start all over again. I took probiotics during this time as well, but I am very concerned that my gut is really messed up.  Memory is really, really bad…in fact, I just watched your DVDs a few days ago and can’t remember how the gut is connected to the brain.  In ffact, this is the second time I have written with this question.  I wrote the original post right away, knowing I would forget why I was so concerned.  But I ended up writing it in the “Support” section instead of the “Better Together” section on the website.  A kind man helped me when I was trying to find the answer to my post!  As you can see, my brain needs work!  LOL! Thank you for your help!

Hi Amy,

Thank you for your post! Certainly sounds like you could benefit from a gut healing protocol, including probiotics, prebiotics (ie: high fiber foods), and a whole-foods, anti-inflammatory diet. Our ProBrainBiotic is a great probiotic supplement, though you may initially need a higher count  to work on re-establishing a healthy microbiome. Include probiotic-rich foods such as sauerkraut, coconut/goat/sheep yogurt (plain, unsweetened), and kimchi. Additionally, ghee (clarified butter) and l-glutamine are both powerful for healing the gut lining which is severely impacted by chronic antibiotic use. Consider speaking with one of our integrative physicians or nutritionists for more personalized support if needed.

Best!

Zoe
