Testosterone Supplement DHEA

Hi there!  I found out last week that I am chronically low in testosterone (less than -3).

Can you please tell me if DHEA which I can purchase over the counter would be an equivalent supplement to take in place of the hormone replacement offered me by my doctor?  Thanks!

Thanks for your question! Unfortunately, I don’t have a simple answer for you, other than: maybe. 🙂

Reasons for low testosterone can be a bit complex and deserve a thorough exploration, so I would highly recommend meeting with a functional medicine practitioner who could assess your lab work and health history to come up with the best course of treatment for you. If DHEA supplementation is recommended, your hormone levels should be regularly monitored under the care of a qualified professional. We have great functional medicine physicians who could help you with this, so consider setting up an appointment with one of them. Best!
