Benzodiazapenes

I have been advised that the xanax I use to control my anxiety will be eliminated from the big Pharma to distribution.  I am concerned since I have been taking this medication since I returned from Viet Nam to assist with my PTSD.
Is this a solid statement that the opiod crisis would cause the elimination of these drugs for those of us who truly need them, and if so, what is the alternative to using a benzo?  Can you shed light on this topic.  Many thanks,
Ray

Hi Ray-
I do not believe you are at risk of losing your medication access, but to mitigate any anxiety about this situation, I would encourage you to speak with your prescribing physician about other options for you should you need them in the future. There are many ways to support anxiety, so if you need support outside of your physician, please consider working with one of our integrative psychiatrists who are well versed in a wide range of options for anxiety support. Best to you-Zoe

Thank you, the prescribing physician provides no alternatives, other than the threat that it will eliminated to those who are not in final life stages, or prescribed after surgery for pain management.  How do I contact one of the integrative psychiatrists mentioned in your msg above. Man thanks.

Is  there a way to download and print the “daily reflections” for my counselor to review?

I do not see a way to do that, but I will forward your question to the technical support team. Thanks!

How often should we take the Brain type assesment?  I thought it was yearly, I have been with the program for almost 2 years.  Would it be advisable to take it over yearly?  As I recall hearing Dr. Amen, saying that to measure things, it was good to take the assesment every so often.  Am I correct?

Yes indeed! Depending on how many changes to your self-care you are making, you can assess every 3-6 months to see what is improving, and what may still need attention. It’s great motivation to see improvements over time!

I’m very sorry to hear about your losses. While it’s hard to continue to practice optimal self-care in the midst of grief, it helps us to manage our emotional energy to keep to a routine with sleep, sound nutrition, regular exercise, and certainly support from friends, family, and community. There are grief support groups offered at many community centers, religious institutions, and hospitals so I encourage you to seek one out if that would be helpful for you.

And great to hear that despite your losses, you are still able to improve your brain health over time. Wonderful! -Zoe

Flight anxiety, l have flown all of my live, however, in the past 10 years, I experience more anxiety than I previously have.  I have been reducing my medications over this time, and I was wondering if that was the cause?  If so, I would need to take a little more prior to flight time.

Your thoughts, I am not a drinker, however, in air, I can consume a few drinks to ease this anxious time. Your thoughts.  I get anxious just thinking about the flight.

Thanks for your question. It could be from a change in medications. Are you experiencing more anxiety overall or only related to flying?

For immediate help, consider using GABA Calming about 30-60 minutes before the flight. Additionally using a bit of lavender extract to smell during the flight can be very relaxing. And I would encourage you to check out the Fear of Flying series called Soar put together by a pilot, which helps to understand flight much better and can ease fear that is based in the mechanics of flying. I hope that helps!

Best!

I am still here and dealing with a half brother who is an alcoholic and incarcerated, this does not provide me a level of comfort.  He is in and out of jail, half way houses, and is constantly a source of anxiety for me.  I pray a lot and try to give it to the Lord.  Time will tell.  Trust you are doing well.

Greetings…I’ve been offline due to health issues. I, too, have to start all over again..  Hope you are  doing OK. Sending Blessings… Oh, and Blessings to Coach Zoe!!!
