It has been a year now, that I am recovering from my third concussion since 2013.
I always have been a ‘healthy eater’, have always been active, very active (physically and mentally).
My body appears in good shape (although I lost some size, muscle mass and strength). I have received the results of my blood work, and my GP suggested that I have optimal numbers.
Since I watched the TV program and DVD’s of Dr. Amen, I cut out gluten and starches, additionally I let go of obvious sugar laden foods (even pastries and chocolate treats). My diet is comprised of 80% vegetarian + seafood, usually salmon, mackerel, tuna and sometimes halibut. I do start my day with a self prepared smoothie followed by a breakfast of oatmeal or vegetables with some fruits and protein, either powder or raw -like eggs or fish. Milk has been replaced by Almond Milk (containing Omega 6, potassium, Vitamin A, D, E, B12, phosphorus, magnesium, calcium, zinc, riboflavin and iron) I do supplement.
Throughout the day I consume about 150g of protein through fish, eggs and/or protein shakes.
The protein shakes contain a 3:1 ratio of carbohydrates.
My direct intake of fats are fish oil, coconut oil, some olive oil on salads and nuts.
Further I supplement with:
Morning
Multivitamin/mineral
Lutein
1x tsp Fish Oil Omega 3(1250mg EPA/DHA) +Vitamin D (1000IU)
MidDay
Vitamin C (500mg)
Evening
Magnesium Bis-Glycinate (200mg)
1xtsp Fish Oil Omega 3(1250 EPA/DHA) +Vitamin D(1000IU)
Yet, after I get up in the morning, had my shower, I feel like I am ‘dead’ sleepy. After I did some activity physically or mentally and come to rest (for example sitting at a table) I experience the same symptoms-sleepy, no more energy to do anything else but close my eyes. It appears that my brain wants to shut off and just rest.
I exercise daily between 20-50 minutes -weights, cardio, stretching, martial arts (as suggested by Dr. Amen).
However if I sais my pulse over 150/160 for more then 20 minutes I get dizzy (on the spot, on the minute).
(I do sleep usually 6 hours, although only with some form of medication before bed time.)
WHAT ELSE can I can do to improve my energy level, strength….?
