Can you give me ideas on how to improve my Ferritin numbers?  On the know your numbers sight, it says my 127 is a bad number but does not show what to do to improve it.  Any information is appreciated!

I’ve learned that donating blood is the easiest and cheapest way to remove Ferritin iron from the blood. Give blood two or three times, then test again to see how you’re doing. Optimum level is 11, but personally I’m not overdoing it. My level was 93, and my plan is to get it down much lower than that. Then you need to monitor your iron levels because for some reason they put Ferritin iron in all enriched foods — even the raw flour you buy in the store. The body can’t use or dispose of the Ferritin so it stores the metal in the blood. I believe the US is the only country that puts Ferritin in food. Make me wonder.

If you don’t want to give blood, an online search will give you some herbs you can take to remove Ferritin from your body.

The way to improve ferritin levels is to follow the dietary guidelines offered here which includes avoiding processed, refined, sugary foods, dairy, and alcohol. Additionally, maintaining a healthy weight, getting adequate sleep, and regular exercise also help. Best!

Ok, thank you all!  I am following the eating plan and am down to a glass of wine now & then.  I am no longer obese but am still overweight.  Hopefully I will eventually get into the normal range.  I appreciate the info.  I have not given blood in a long time.  Thanks for the advise!
