I just read an article stating that high dosage Vitamin C is effective in preventing dementia.  What is  your opinion on this and what dosage is correct.

Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant and chelating agent (detoxifies metals), which is beneficial for all of our systems, including the brain. Research on the impacts to our neurological health is ongoing, and you can see much of it here: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/?term=vitamin+C%3B+dementia. Dosages vary based on age, gender, and exposure to toxins, but our Neurovite supplies 200 mg per serving.

Hello-  I think I am reading this correct but at a lower dose Vitamin C can cause problems — is that correct?   Thank you for the article with the details of the trials.

–  I am sorry I see that the higher dose they are talking about is for CAD -so 200 to 400 mg. resulted in increased memory problems–  I guess if your taking a multi vitamin and other combined vitamins you would have to be sure how much your taking otherwise could be a real issue.

Remember Vitamin C is found in many fruits and vegetables, so primary sources can come from food. Ask your physician who knows your full health history about whether supplementing makes sense for you. There is important research on the benefit of cherry juice for cognition and memory, as an example.
