Brain type 8: are carbs ok?

Hi, I’m a brain type 8. Is it OK for me to eat good carbs like sweet potatoes and quinoa? Or should I moderate them to only a few times a week? I’m healing from a TBI and PTSD, so I am eating the best possible way.

Also, I’m trying to lose weight (eliminated sugar, carbs, dairy, etc), but I wonder if eating guacamole and nuts will impede my weight loss…
Thanks!

Yes, brain type 8 should include a balance of healthy carbohydrates, proteins, and good fats. Healthy fats should be regularly consumed (avocado, raw nuts/seeds, high quality fish like salmon, coconut oil, avocado oil, etc.) and should not impede your weight loss if eaten moderately.

To reach your ideal weight, try eating your vegetables first at every meal or snack. This will naturally portion the rest of your meal (proteins, healthy fats). Aim for 70% of your plate to be non-starchy vegetables, and when you have quinoa or sweet potato keep the portion moderate, such as 1/2 cup of quinoa or a small sweet potato. Also, make sure you are drinking plenty of water throughout the day, about half your body weight in ounces up to 100 oz each day.

There can be many additional factors that influence weight, so if you need more support, consider speaking with one of our brain health coaches. Best to you!
